Trading System Development

My book Quantitative Trading Systems (QTS) describes in detail the trading system development process I recommend.
Modeling Trading System Performance (MTSP) is a sequel to QTS and extends it.  MTSP begins with the results of a trading system and analyzes the performance.

The outline presented here gives a framework for blog postings.

From “Quantitative Trading Systems”

1.  Define the objective function.

2.  Decide what to trade and how to trade it.

3.  Design the trading system.

4.  Determine the length of the in-sample period.

5.  Determine the length of the out-of-sample period.

6.  Decide what to optimize.

7.  Perform walk forward runs.

8.  Evaluate the out-of-sample results.

9.  Trade the system.

10.  Monitor the results.

From “Modeling Trading System Performance”

11.  Treat trading as a business.

12.  Understand the distribution of the trades.

13.  Determine the system’s risk.

14.  Consider the trader’s tolerance to risk.

15.  Perform Monte Carlo simulation.

16.  Determine position size.

17.  Evaluate system health.
